What to Expect from Sustainable Pursuits Monthly Plastic-Free Challenge

I created Sustainable Pursuits monthly plastic-free challenge to help with my intentional living goal of cutting down on plastic dependency. I’ve already swapped out many of the plastics I use for their sustainable counterparts, but I wanted to dive deeper and focus on the items that aren’t so easy to swap out. I really enjoy eco-friendly challenges like Plastic Free July Month. I decided a month would be a good timeframe to challenge myself to find plastic-free alternatives, and modify my habits accordingly. But there are so many plastics to cut out! So, in order to pace myself and stay accountable, I’m going to do a plastic-free challenge each month for a year.

Why focus on plastic?

While trying to live more intentionally and reduce wasteful habits, single-use plastics struck me as the biggest unnecessary waste in my life. Not only are there issues with the plastic waste itself but there are environmental and health problems caused by it as well (epa.gov). While I still hope to work on reducing other forms of waste, I want to focus on a monthly plastic-free challenge first because of our ever growing dependency on single-use plastics.

What to expect from Sustainable Pursuits monthly plastic-free challenge posts (updated):

1. The first week of the month, I will post the plastic-free/eco friendly challenge along with 3 strategies to help achieve the goal.
2. The following weeks, I will go into more detail about the 3 strategies.
3. Throughout the month, I will post helpful tips, recipes, and crafts that you can use for more eco friendly living.
4. At the end of the month I will do a conclusion post about how well the 3 strategies worked. As well as a resource roundup for any books or products that others might find useful (which may or may not have affiliate links).
