Lately, I’ve been musing on the direction of this blog, Sustainable Pursuits, and how to create more connections and community. When it comes to sustainability, the topics are quite broad and varied which is a good thing. I chose the title ‘Sustainable Pursuits’ because I hope to eventually cover more topics in addition to plastic-free living. I’m sure many of you know how multifaceted the subject of eco friendly living can be – from tips and tricks, cleaning materials, products, housing, sourcing, clothing, being budget-friendly, zero-waste, homesteading, the list goes on and on.
My goal is to focus on the habit side of eco friendly living. Meaning, I want to examine the different habits that make up my daily routine and see how they contribute to plastic waste and dependency. Right now, I like my current blog structure of exploring different strategies and options in order to change those habits.
Why connections and community are important
But so far, it’s mostly just been me and my personal strategies. This leaves me wondering how helpful these strategies are for others. Or, do the suggestions and options only really work for a few people? Without more feedback, I can only assume the experiences other people are having.
Also, I love learning about other people’s transformative journeys. So, this got me thinking more and more about the need for community and feedback for those living, and wanting to live, a more sustainable lifestyle.
2 reasons for sustainable community and feedback:
- Any type of positive behavior change is more likely to succeed if there is some level of support and accountability.
- I know what I specifically want to focus on for where I’m at in my plastic-free/intentional living journey. But I don’t know what would be beneficial or helpful to others on their journeys. This is where feedback would be extremely helpful.
Some of the ideas I’m considering to create connections and community:
- Putting a survey on the website to make it easier to leave feedback.
- Making a Facebook group, to allow for more discussion and idea sharing.
- Starting a book club with a once a month online meetup for discussion.
- Organizing an Earth Day and/or Plastic Free July committee and events for my local area.
Let me know in the comments below what your thoughts are on these activities or if you would be interested in any of them. In the next two weeks or so, I will hopefully have the survey up so you can leave feedback that way as well.
